What is Xfce?

Xfce is a desktop environment built by the Xfce community. It aims to keep memory and processor use low while still giving you the menus, settings and tools you need every day.

It’s worth considering for an older computer, or if you just prefer a straightforward desktop.

Can you customise it?

You can move and resize panels, change themes and icons, and set your own keyboard shortcuts through Settings Manager.

Panel add-ons let you keep small tools, such as a weather display, close at hand. The starting layout can look different depending on your distro.

Which distros use it?

Linux Mint offers an Xfce edition. Xubuntu (opens in a new tab) is Ubuntu with Xfce, and Fedora has an Xfce Spin (opens in a new tab) ready to use.
