Graphical software managers

What are they?

Think of them as app stores for your desktop. Search for an app, read about it, and click Install. You can also remove apps and check for updates.

Your distro may already include one. The apps it offers depend on which software sources are enabled.

GNOME Software

GNOME Software is often called simply Software in the app menu. It lets you browse apps, install them, and manage updates.

Depending on your distro’s setup, it can handle both system packages and Flatpak apps.

Discover

Discover is KDE Plasma’s software manager. It provides a place to find apps, remove them, and install updates.

Like GNOME Software, it can work with distro packages and Flatpak apps when the needed support is installed.

Bazaar

Bazaar is a newer app store focused on Flatpak, especially apps from Flathub. It helps you discover, install, and update those apps.

It doesn’t replace your distro’s system updater. Keep using that for the system itself.

Which should you use?

Start with the one your distro includes. You don’t need all three. If you mainly want to browse Flathub apps, Bazaar is another option to explore.
